Judges To Discuss Residential School File In March

A lawyer in Regina says nine judges from across Canada will meet next month to try and solve a dispute over how the residential schools compensation process should proceed.
Word broke this morning that the judges will gather in Calgary on March 8th to discuss issues relating to the compensation deal.
Lawyer Tony Merchant says the judges are apparently split over how certain aspects of the settlement should be carried out.
He explains four judges were perfectly happy with how the settlement was designed but five see things differently.
He adds the judges also want certain services to be performed by Ottawa and the lawyers involved.
Merchant says the hearing may help settle differences among the judges but it doesn’t help survivors. He says this just causes more delays for survivors.
Merchant adds his firm also doesn’t like the changes that are proposed.
