Judge Strikes Down Dry Reserve Bylaw

Roughly 50 Stanley Mission residents have a technicality to thank for seeing their charges of alcohol possession and consumption on the reserve dropped by the RCMP.

RCMP spokesman Sgt. Brad Kaeding says because of a recent decision by the courts to abolish the no alcohol bylaw in Stanley Mission, charges pending on those individuals were thrown out.

Kaeding says a judge found problems with the way the bylaw was created and struck it down.

He adds the local RCMP haven’t reported any visible change in Stanley Mission as a result of the abolishment of the bylaw, and will now wait on the Lac La Ronge Indian Band for further instruction.

Band officials were not immediately available for comment.
