A judge has reserved the sentencing of a teenager involved in the swarming death of a Wollaston Lake resident two years ago.
Justice R.D. Maher will hand down his sentence on Oct. 16.
Yesterday in Prince Albert, lawyers for the teenager and the Crown exchanged their recommendations for a sentence.
The teen is one of six people who was implicated after Dean Josie was fatally stabbed in Sept. 2007.
Crown prosecutor John Morrell says he wants to see the youth held in custody, while the defence wants to see him released under controlled supervision.
“The Crown was asking for a two-year custody sentence, while the defence was basically proposing a three-year custody and supervision sentence, but basically the entire sentence would be the supervision. He wouldn’t really spend any time in jail,” Morrell says.
Meantime, another youth in the case will be released from custody at the end of October.
The youth will go back into the care of his mother on a reserve, where he is expected to attend school.
