Judge Oversees MNS Secretary Vote Recount

A long-awaited recount of the ballots cast for secretary in the recent Metis Nation of Saskatchewan election is underway in Saskatoon today.

In the June voting, candidate Max Morin received 1286 votes, while second-place candidate Tammy Mah received 1240.

Chief Electoral Officer David Hamilton says the difference of 46 votes triggered an automatic recount — because the difference was less than two per cent of all the ballots cast.

A Court of Queen’s Bench justice is counting more than 4,800 ballots from 65 ballot boxes, and Hamilton says there’s a real possibility he will come up with different numbers than the ones posted.

The results will be known by tonight.
