A judicial recount has been ordered in the federal riding of Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River.
The northern Saskatchewan constituency has been in turmoil since allegations of irregularities surfaced shortly after the Liberals’ Gary Merasty defeated incumbent Conservative MP Jeremy Harrison by 73 votes.
Court of Queen’s Bench Madame Justice Allisen Rothery heard arguments for and against a recount on Friday, and today, agreed with Harrison’s legal team that a recount is necessary.
Rothery noted in her judgment that there were counting mistakes in six polls in the riding.
The recount will take place Wednesday morning at Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench.
The process will start at 11:00 am and will be supervised by a judge and three representatives from both the Merasty and Harrison camps.
