Joseph Willing To Work With Tories On Claims

Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Chief Lawrence Joseph says he is looking forward to starting work on the government’s new specific claims task force.

Joseph and three other First Nations representatives were recently named to the eight-person body.

The goal of the task force is to shape the development of upcoming legislation on specific claims.

The chief says it’s interesting to note that two of the four government appointees are lawyers.

However, Joseph believes that the government’s direction will likely come from the top — meaning political will should trump legal expertise.

He also doesn’t foresee any trouble working with the government.
