A long-time Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations vice-chief has announced his intention to seek the FSIN’s chief position.

Lawrence Joseph says his name will be on the ballot when the FSIN holds its chief election in October.

In order to do that, Joseph will have to resign from his current position.

Joseph says it wasn’t an easy decision to make, but adds he’s been encouraged to run for chief for the last several years.

The FSIN’s most senior political office is currently held by Alphonse Bird, who has already announced he intends to seek re-election.

Joseph has been an FSIN vice-chief for the last 8-and-a-half years.

He is perhaps best known for his work handling First Nations justice initiatives.
