A resolution that’s expected to be addressed later this week at the FSIN’s legislative assembly in Saskatoon is already under fire.
The Cumberland House Cree Nation is looking to delay a motion that would see the John Cochrane First Nation officially accepted into the federation.
John Cochrane Chief John Dorion is reserving comment for now, but he acknowleges the resolution is set to be introduced tomorrow in Saskatoon.
The Cumberland House band feels various funding levels between itself and INAC could be affected if the fledgling John Cochrane band ever gains full acceptance.
Former PAGC chief Alphonse Bird argued on Cumberland House’s behalf, saying certain protocols haven’t been followed.
“We also took a serious look at the impact, and a proper process that’s supposed to be followed, and it (the proposal) contravenes with the convention of the FSIN,” Bird told delegates at the PAGC assembly.
Delegates within the PAGC voted overwhelmingly to support Cumberland House’s motion, although the issue stands to come up again in Saskatoon.
