There is a new addition to this year’s John Arcand Fiddle Fest near Saskatoon.

The festival is in its 11th year and features four days of workshops, showcase concerts, and fiddle and jigging competitions.

This year, the first-ever John Arcand Fiddle Fest Lifetime Achievement Award will be awarded to someone who has made great contributions in music and dance.

Arcand says this year’s winner, Everitt Larson, should have been recognized years ago.

Larson is in his late eighties and still teaches 100 students fiddle, piano, guitar, and accordian.

The fiddle fest began today and wraps up with a fiddle finale on Sunday.
