A national Aboriginal leader is pledging to work with Canada’s Minister of Indian Affairs despite recently questioning his competence.

Beverly Jacobs of the Native Women’s Association of Canada has formally endorsed Chuch Strahl’s re-appointment as Indian Affairs minister.

She had opposed his reinstatement shortly after the recent federal election, hoping he would be replaced by someone “who knew what the issues were”.

However, Jacobs says she has since discussed her differences with him and the two are now on the same page.

She stresses she still won’t back down when women’s rights are at stake.

Jacobs says her first priority is to get changes made to Bill C-31.

She says too many women and children have unjustly lost their rights due to the wording in the bill.
