Cameco is explaining the options it has in restoring underground access at the flooded-out Cigar Lake mine.

In its third quarter financial report, the company says most of the options being considered involve drilling from the surface, and isolating the source of the flooding through grouting or freezing techniques — before pumping the water out of the mine.

Cameco engineers and consultants are on site, trying to develop options for a remediation plan.

International experts are also being consulted.

The company anticipates a phased plan will be in place within three months, outlining a preferred option and several alternatives.

Project timelines won’t be known until that’s complete.
