International Dene Gathering in the Works

The interim leader of the Denesuline National Council says talks are taking place about holding a gathering of Dene leaders from around the world.

Allan Adam says the gathering is a long way from happening, but work is underway to see if the endeavor is possible and who might be interested in attending.

Adam attended a meeting last fall in Calgary where a committee was struck to look into the issue.

He says the summer of 2005 has been tossed around as a potential date for the gathering.

In the meantime, Adam has been sending e-mails to groups throughout North America, as well as a Dene community in Russia.

He admits there might be financial obstacles in the way of this gathering taking place, but feels they can be overcome if there is enough interest.
