Saskatchewan’s chief coroner says there could be an inquest into the freezing deaths of two young girls on a reserve east of Saskatoon.

But Kent Stewart says he wants to wait until the police are done investigating the deaths of three-year-old Kaydance Pauchay and her one-year-old sister, Santana, before he makes that decision.

Stewart won’t say whether the autopsy revealed anything that would suggest one of the girls was sick on the night in question.

Family members have said they believe the girls’ father may have been trying to get help for one of the girls when he ventured out into the cold with them.
