The RCMP say it appears a child safety seat in an SUV that rolled near Onion Lake on the weekend wasn’t properly secured.

The seat, with an infant girl in it, was ejected from the vehicle during Friday night’s rollover.

The 24-year-old driver, a woman from the Onion Lake First Nation, was also ejected and died at the scene.

The baby survived, and at last word, was in an Edmonton hospital.

RCMP spokesperson Heather Russell says the cause of the crash remains under investigation, although the Mounties have ruled out alcohol as a possible factor.

No names have been released.
