Indian Affairs is moving ahead with plans to create safe-drinking water guidelines on reserve.

Meetings are planned across the country next month as officials gather feedback from bands about what rules they’d like to see instituted.

Gail Mitchel is a director general with INAC’s community infratructure wing.

She says the agency is looking at using provincial guidelines as a starting point for discussion.

She says whatever standards are developed will be enforcable by law.

She adds environmental assessments will be carried out before any projects affecting water-stations are started.
