Indian Affairs Asked To Probe Canoe Lake Election

An official with Indian Affairs confirms his office has received an official challenge over the results of last year’s band election in Canoe Lake.

James Parker says the appeal is still in its early stages, but department representatives are looking at it.

The December 16th vote saw Chief Guy Lariviere re-elected as chief by a narrow margin of two votes.

However, some band members are unhappy with how the ballots were counted.

Parker says it’s too soon to say whether or not an investigation will be launched.

If a review is undertaken, Parker says an independent third party will handle it.

Parker also says INAC will soon be in contact with all the parties involved.
