Ralph Paul has been re-elected chief of the English River Dene Nation.

The incumbent leader defeated two other challengers during an election Friday.

He will now serve another two-year term.

One of his rivals was former chief Alfred Dawatsare, who was permitted under band election rules to also run for council.

Dawatsare was re-elected to council, as were fellow incumbents Marie Black and Gloria Apesis.

Black received the most votes among the candidates for council, and will serve as the band’s vice-chief.

There were also three new councillors elected — Archie Campbell, H. Russell Black and Bernadette Eaglechild.
