INAC Orders Bands To Place Value On Capital Assets

The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations wrapped up its winter legislative assembly yesterday at the Dakota Dunes Casino on the Whitecap Dakota First Nation, and an upcoming review by Indian Affairs received plenty of attention.

Over the next 15 months, First Nations have been ordered by INAC to identify and place a value on all of their capital assets.

Vice-Chief Morley Watson says that could mean a lot of things, including schools, health centres, other buildings and roads.

Watson says many leaders want to know why Indian Affairs is requesting the information and what help they’re prepared to offer.

INAC apparently already offered bands in Ontario $2,000 each to help with the process.

A federation official calls that an insult.
