Indian Affairs Minister Andy Scott isn’t about to get pinned down on whether his department is prepared to suspend funding to the First Nations University of Canada.
The Regina-based institution has been the scene of numerous dismissals, suspensions and resignations in recent months, amid allegations of political interference.
Scott is currently visiting Saskatchewan and had another meeting with Saskatchewan Learning Minister Andrew Thomson about the issue yesterday.
Thomson has said the province would likely pull its funding from the university if it ended up losing its accreditation, but Scott is not prepared to speculate what Ottawa would do in that situation.
Scott does say that he’s pleased with the creation of an independent task force that’s been commissioned to review the university’s operations.
He also says his department is committed to help the task force in any way it can.
Scott made his comments during an interview with MBC in La Ronge yesterday.
