The leader of a northern community says he’s not impressed with how this year’s Metis election was held.

Ile-a-la-Crosse mayor Max Morin says he has deep respect for the senators who headed up last week’s appeal hearings in Prince Albert, but he feels a new vote must be held for the benefit of Metis everywhere.

Morin says no matter who comes out ahead when the Metis Election Commission rules on the appeals, the Metis will continue to remain divided because of all the controversy surrounding the vote.

Morin and seven other residents of Ile-a-la-Crosse picketed outside the hotel where the hearings were being held last week.

They were carrying signs — demanding a new election be called.
