An Ile-a-la-Crosse man is not impressed with a development earlier this week concerning former students of the community’s old boarding school.

Don Favel is pushing to have the institution added to the list of residential schools, so those who attended can be compensated.

Earlier this week, it was learned the former students hadn’t yet convinced the government that the school deserved to be on the list.

Favel notes the Ile-a-la-Crosse school is not one of the 325 schools reviewed so far. He says it is among 149 institutions that the government still has to make a decision on.

He says with roughly 2,000 survivors of the school still around, the Metis are feeling like an afterthought.

Favel says people are disappointed the school hasn’t been included because Stephen Harper publicly promised it would be before he became Prime Minister.
