Hurley Appealing Murder Conviction

A man recently found guilty of killing an Onion Lake woman in a Lloydminster hotel room is appealing the verdict and the sentence he received.

44-year-old Gordon Dwight Hurley was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 13 years after a jury in Battleford convicted him of second-degree murder earlier this month.

The victim, Jarita Naistus, was found by hotel staff two years ago.

Courd heard she had been beaten and strangled.

Hurley is taking issue with how the jury reached its verdict, the instructions jurors received from the judge and the sentence the judge handed down.

If Hurley gets a new trial, he has asked that it be heard by a judge alone.
