There were some tense moments for three American bear hunters who went missing on Namew Lake earlier this week.
RCMP spokesperson Heather Russell says the Mounties in Cumberland House were notified Tuesday afternoon that the hunters hadn’t returned to a camp at Sturgeon Landing the previous night.
Russell says wind and rain storms that set in overnight were a cause for concern.
The men were located on the windswept southwest corner of the lake by an RCMP search and rescue team, the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association and a local volunteer from Cumberland House.
Russell says it appears that the men were on their way back to their camp on Monday night when their boat motor failed.
She says they were then forced to drift in the high winds to the opposite side of the lake.
Due to the heavy rains and strong winds, their boat was subsequently swamped with water.
All three men are now safe and said to be in good health.
