A spokesman for boarding school survivors from Ile a’la crosse says a break appears to have been made in their fight for compensation.

Don Favel says the federal government sounds willing to make amends for the fact it ran the hospital that sat on the same land as the boarding school.

Up till now survivors have been forced to watch as other residential school survivors received cheques for their time at the institutions.

Favel says they’re hopeful this new approach of recognizing the hospital’s role in their care will budge the government from its position.

Right now Favel says questionnaires are being circulated in northwest communities so all survivors can be registered.
