The RCMP are looking for a Meadow Lake man who allegedly seriously assaulted a referee during a weekend hockey tournament on a Saskatchewan reserve.
The Mounties say the ref was attacked by a player on the ice at the arena on the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation late Sunday morning.
The player, who was being ejected from the game for a previous infraction, reportedly cross-checked the 45-year-old referee across the face with his stick.
The player continued the assault until others on the ice intervened. He then left the arena a short time later.
The referee was taken to the hospital in Meadow Lake with facial injuries and was later transferred to Saskatoon for further medical treatment.
A warrant has been issued for 21-year-old Nolan Crighton. Crighton is facing several charges, including aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact their nearest police agency or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
