A growing number of Cree and Saulteaux residents in Nipawin are using the services of a new tribal group there.

The Nipawin First Nation Association was created last June to help out-of-town band members find places to live and people to meet.

Chairman Adam Whitehead says seven different bands are represented through the association.

He says the city has responded favourably to the new agency, and good partnerships are being made.

Whitehead hopes the organization can propel more First Nations residents into Nipawin’s economy and schooling opportunities.

He says band members stand a better chance of realizing these goals if they feel comfortable in the city they live in.
