Heavy Smoke Forces More Evacuations

More evacuations have taken place in the Athabasca region due to heavy smoke in the area.

Late yesterday, 6 people were flown out of Stony Rapids to Meadow Lake as a result of heavy smoke.

That was in addition to 59 residents of Black Lake who were flown out on Monday to La Ronge.

Saskatchewan Community Resources spokeswoman Janet Miller says no one will be allowed back into their communities until it’s deemed to be safe by local authorities.

Meanwhile, one of the nurses at the Black Lake Health Centre says the smoke appears to be even worse today and can be smelled inside the hospital.

She says wouldn’t be surprised if more evacuations were to occur this weekend.
