Hearings Set For Appeals Regarding LLRIB Election

The election appeals officer for the Lac La Ronge Indian Band has decided to hold hearings into three of the six appeals filed in connection to the recent vote.

Lucky Man First Nation Chief Pauline Okemow submitted her decision today, and will hear appeals against band councillors Larry Roberts and John R. Halkett on May 23rd in Prince Albert.

Roberts’ election win is being contested by two people — fellow councillor Irwin Hennie and Hilliard Mirasty.

Keith Mirasty is challenging John R. Halkett’s election victory.

Both are councillors on the Little Red River reserve, while Roberts and Hennie are councillors in La Ronge.

Chief electoral officer Charles Whitecap won’t go into details about the nature of the appeals — but says three other appeals that were filed were deemed not to have merit.

Okemow was not immediately available for comment.
