The provincial government is adding more money to its bursary program in an effort to entice nurses and health professionals to stay and work in Saskatchewan.

Health Minister Len Taylor made the announcement yesterday, committing funding for 600 new and continuing bursaries.

Saskatchewan Health spokesperson Jean Bellegarde says the amount of the financial packages being offered to young graduates ranges between $2,000 and $10,000.

Bellegarde says the program has proven itself effective in convincing young health workers to try places like northern Saskatchewan.

She says the fact they only have to make a one-year commitment makes the bursaries an attractive option.

The closing date for bursary applications is May 4th.
