A Beauval woman is waiting for an explanation as to how her 22-month-old daughter could be sent home from the local health clinic, and then die the following day.
Claudette Bonneau’s daughter passed away in an ambulance on August 14th while en route to the hospital in Ile-a-la-Crosse.
Bonneau says her daughter was violently ill the previous day, but when she was taken to the clinic, one of the nurses told her it was the flu and sent the child home.
Bonneau claims the nurse offered that diagnosis without even consulting a doctor or checking her daughter’s vitals.
Bonneau says she has been in regular contact with officials from the local health region, but hasn’t got the answers she is looking for.
Keewatin Yatthe spokesman Richard Petit says an investigation is underway, and Saskatchewan Health has also been notified.
An autopsy was ordered, but Bonneau says health officials have yet to explain what exactly caused her daughter’s death.
She also says she is currently in discussion with legal counsel.
