The Hatchet Lake Dene Nation is celebrating its new year-round facility today.
The community’s arena was built about five years ago — minus the cement floor.
The mud flooring made for a shorter hockey season and wasn’t utilized in the summer.
Areva Resources and Cameco Corporation, along with other organizations, donated the materials and manpower necessary to pour the concrete floor.
Chief Bart Tsannie says it’s a big project for the community, especially for the youth.
Tsannie says he’s grateful for the donation from the mining companies.
The project’s estimated cost is $300,000.
