Harrison Takes Swipe At Merasty Over Agriculture

It’s looking more and more like former MP Jeremy Harrison will be running in his former riding in the next federal election.

He’s attacking current Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River MP Gary Merasty over House of Commons committee work — a tactic that worked when Harrison defeated Rick Laliberte in the 2004 election.

Harrison says Merasty missed almost half of the meetings held by the Agriculture Committee in the last partiamentary session.

Harrison also notes that Merasty didn’t make any interventions in the meetings he did attend.

Merasty is hosting an agriculture forum in Meadow Lake today with Liberal agriculture critic Wayne Easter.

Harrison says two of the issues they want to cover today were discussed at committee meetings Merasty skipped.

Merasty’s people are promising a response to the criticism later today.

Harrison announced last week that he was pondering taking a run at winning back his former seat.

Harrison insists the criticism isn’t a sign he has made a final decision. He says the public should know what their government representative is up to in Ottawa.
