Harrison Takes Aim At Prime Minister Martin

The Conservative candidate in northern Saskatchewan says Prime Minister Paul Martin is engaging in fear-mongering tactics.

Just this week, Martin told MBC he doubts whether the Conservatives are really prepared to compensate survivors of the boarding school in Ile-a-la-Crosse, after they failed to endorse the Kelowna Accord.

Harrison disputes that, saying the Tories believe in the goals and targets set out in the meeting. He argues they simply want to revisit how it’s delivered.

Harrison says he also has written a letter to the department of Indian Affairs asking them to be ready to move quickly on the issue of residential school compensation, particularly as it pertains to elderly victims.

He says he’s taking this step because, if the polls are to be believed, the Conservatives will soon be in power.
