The issue of compensating Canada’s First Nations and Metis war veterans is expected to be debated in the House of Commons within the next month.
Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River M-P Jeremy Harrison has made the recognition and compensation of Aboriginal war veterans the subject of a private member’s bill he’s placed on the parliamentary order paper.
All M-Ps are given the opportunity to propose private member’s bills and have one of them debated in the House of Commons.
Harrison says it’s high time that the House hear the case for compensating Aboriginal war veterans for post-war benefits they were denied.
Harrison has also proposed a bill calling for all Crown corporations and the Canadian Wheat Board to fall under the Access to Information Act.
