Harrison Believes Aboriginal Support Still There

The former Member of Parliament for Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River thinks he still has a lot of support in the northern Aboriginal community.

But Jeremy Harrison won’t make a decison on whether to run in the next federal election in the constituency until he’s visited some communities in the riding.

Beauval, Ile-a-la-Crosse and Buffalo Narrows are some of the places he’s traveling to this week to gauge support for both himself and the Conservatives, in general.

Harrison says the Tories still plan to follow through on their promise to compensate former residents of the boarding school in Ile-a-la-Crosse, but he says the issue has proved to be a lot more complicated than originally thought.

Harrison took some heat after appealing the results from his election loss to the Liberals’ Gary Merasty, and suggesting voting irregularities at reserve polling stations were to blame.

Harrison says his comments were taken out of context by Liberal supporters.
