Survivors of a boarding school in Ile-a-la-Crosse are calling on Prime Minister Stephen Harper to make good on an election promise he made to them.

Harper bought commercials on MBC during the campaign that promised a Conservative government would compensate both the former students in Ile-a-la-Crosse and the survivors of residential schools.

Local Metis leader Don Favel says even though the recent throne speech didn’t contain much for Aboriginal people, the survivors remain hopeful Harper will follow through on his commitment in the coming federal budget.

Favel says survivors have been sending petitions and letters to the Prime Minister.

He also says there is ongoing research being conducted to prepare for legal challenges.
