The Regina Aboriginal Professionals Association is hoping to sway politicians in Regina to dedicate an entire month to celebrate Aboriginal achievements, history and cultures.

RAPA membership chair Cherish Deegan notes June 21st is currently recognized as National Aboriginal Day, but her group argues one day a year is not enough time to properly celebrate Aboriginal contributions.

Deegan says the group hopes to convince at least the provincial government to proclaim June “Aboriginal History Month”.

An event designed to kickstart the campaign will take place early this evening at the University of Regina.
