The chair of a group chosen to market and build new infrastructure at Batoche says he wants all visitors to the site to understand its historic importance.

Patrick Adams is the chair of the Dizaines for Batoche Development, a co-operative made up of six groups with an interest in promoting and preserve this site, which played a key role in the 1885 Northwest Rebellion and the history of the Metis people.

The Dizaines have just been awarded nearly half a million dollars by the federal and provincial governments, Tourism Saskatoon, and Sagehill Community Futures, to help the Dizaines realize their vision of a re-energized Batoche.

Adams says there is a lot of value in giving visitors a greater understanding of what life was like at Batoche.

Adams hopes the project, which includes both educational programs and re-constructed buildings both at Batoche village and neighbouring sites like Fish Creek, will make the history come alive for a new generation of Metis and non-Metis visitors alike.
