Greens Dump On Tories Over Changes To Waters Act

The Green Party says recent changes made to the Navigable Waters Protection Act will violate Aboriginal rights to consultation on issues impacting treaty rights.

Leader Elizabeth May says the Conservative government snuck the changes into its budget bill, effectively allowing it to go though with many projects involving Canada’s waterways without environmental consultations.

May says the Tories completely neglected First Nations people when they drafted the bill.

May says environmental protection measures have no business in a budget implementation bill — and adds the Liberals are also guilty of selling out the environment by letting the bill pass last week.
