The new leader of the Green Party of Saskatchewan says she may run in the upcoming provincial by-election for the vacant Cumberland Riding.

Amber Jones, a 27-year-old graduate student at the University of Saskatchewan, was selected as the party’s leader on April 5th.

She says she has some groundwork to do before any announcement is made regarding the by-election — but adds she’s seriously considering the possibility of running.

Jones says the need for environmental sustainability of mining and oil production will be a key piece of her party’s campaign.

She says she worries the current government is rushing ahead too quickly with oil sands projects in the northwest.
