Green Lake Metis Unhappy Over Land Transfer

A Metis leader from Green Lake says it’s high-time local members were consulted about industrial developments taking place in their region more often.

Ric Richardson of Keyano Local #5 says a great number of Metis fur harvesters have already lost out over logging and clear-cutting in the past.

He says the village of Green Lake has also made the mistake of not consulting his group about developments on Metis land — adding the government shouldn’t be treating the village as if it’s a Metis entity.

Richardson says Metis citizens must be consulted and included in all aspects of planning and development over the recent transfer of the Silver Lake Farm to Green Lake.
