Grassroots Liberals Urge Crackdown On Dissidents

Two Liberal party members are speaking out about the party’s by-election loss in the Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River constituency last month.
Both Gordon Dumont and John Dorion blame widespread criticism over Stephane Dion’s appointment of Liberal candidate Joan Beatty as the key reason why Conservative Rob Clarke won the seat.
Dumont says a few bad apples seem to have done their best to taint the image of the party.
He says this can’t continue to happen if the Liberals want to re-take the riding.
Meantime, Dorion blames would-be candidate David Orchard and outspoken member Jimmy Durocher.
Dorion argues Orchard signed a 55-page form indicating he knew an appointment might happen.
He also says Durocher went way too far with his public comments on Beatty’s appointment.
Dorion says the party should review their activities — and adds he thinks discipline is required to ensure party unity.
Both Dorion and Dumont note Clarke thanked Durocher in his maiden speech in Parliament.
