A graduation ceremony was held in Spiritwood on Friday for 12 First Nations citizens who are hoping to become carpenters.

Nine of the grads hail from bands within the Agency Chiefs Tribal Council, while the other three are from Ahtahkakoop.

For the past four years, the grads have learned how to build homes and have experienced what it takes to become a contractor.

Tribal council finance manager Tracey Shira-Parker says the course has given the youth a shot at lifelong careers.

She adds the grads recently wrote their inter-provincial exams, and will be considered journeymen after that.
