The federal and provincial governments are joining forces to create an Aboriginal Sport Program.

Provincial minister responsible Glenn Hagel says it builds upon the province’s Building Future Champions Program — which he says has been very successful in increasing participation opportunities for Aboriginal athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers since it was created in 2003.

The Aboriginal Sport Program will be managed by SaskSport, and will see the governments contribute a total of $100,000 to Aboriginal sport development.

Among other things, the funding will be used to help the Red Pheasant First Nation host this year’s edition of the Saskatchewan First Nations Summer Games.
