Government Investigating Keewatin Yatthe

Saskatchewan Health has decided to review the termination of four doctors’ contracts in La Loche, after all.
The call had been made by the Saskatchewan Medical Association, which has openly questioned the move by the Keewatin Yatthe Regional Health Authority.
Last month, Health Minister John Nilson rejected the SMA’s pitch for an inquiry, but the department has now decided to hire two consultants to review the hiring and firing practices at Keewatin Yatthe.
Even though it won’t be a formal inquiry, SMA spokesman Marcus Davies says the association is glad to hear some sort of review will be taking place.
Keewatin Yatthe officials were not immediately available for comment.
Two doctors are currently working in La Loche under new contracts, but the health region is still looking to hire two more physicians.
