The president of Golden Band Resources says construction on several gold mines north of La Ronge could begin as early as next summer.
Rodney Orr was in La Ronge yesterday afternoon to celebrate the signing of a surface lease agreement that will allow Golden Band to develop several properties in the Grandmother’s Bay area for gold mining.
The Lac La Ronge Indian Band has signed a partnership agreement with Orr’s company, and Kitsaki Procon Joint Venture, one of the band’s businesses, has been involved in underground exploration work and preliminary refurbishment of the Jolu gold mill.
Orr says the signing ceremony marks a “milestone” in Golden Band’s development into a full-fledged mining company, as well as an opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to working with northerners.
“What we’re trying to demonstrate now by having Lac La Ronge Indian Band and Kitsaki (personnel) participate in this ceremony today with us, on the signing of this surface lease, is (that) we’re looking to become much more than just a mining company, but also a partner with the northern communities, especially the communities that are close to the operations, and (the) Lac La Ronge Indian Band, on whose traditional lands all our activities are taking place,” Orr says.
The next step will be for Golden Band to finish gathering the remaining financing before construction can begin.
They still need $26-million to $30-million for that to happen.
