Future Of Treaty Commissioner’s Office Uncertain

The head of Saskatchewan’s Office of the Treaty Commissioner can’t say whether the government will renew funding for the post.
Judge David Arnot is preparing to leave the job he’s held for the last decade.
During that time, he has outfitted every school in the province with a treaty education kit and published a 400-page report on treaty implementation in today’s society.
Arnot’s term expires on March 31st. So far, there hasn’t been any word on who might take over the position — or when.
Arnot says he’s optimistic something will be worked out, but admits he isn’t calling the shots.
He adds it would be a shame if the OTC were disbanded or set aside.
Arnot notes many people still have misconceptions about the treaties, but he believes that mindset is slowly changing.
He also believes the situation is better today than when he started.
