Future Of All-Weather Road Network In Question

A business official in the Athabasca region says he worries the provincial government is going to renege on its commitment to build an all-weather road network in the Far North.

Glen Strong of the Athabasca Basin Transportation Planning Committee says some bureaucrats have indicated to him things are up in the air while the new government transitions itself.

Strong adds his group has made presentations to Saskatchewan Party MLAs in the past about the project’s economic importance to Far North communities.

However, he says his group has yet to receive any official commitment.

Strong says he also wonders why so little actual work has happened on the project so far.

Cabinet ministers in the new Saskatchewan Party government are still being briefed on their portfolios, and haven’t been available for comment.
