Police in Prince Albert say a bear was spotted in the city last night.

Sergeant Bill Chow says the call came in at 8:00 last night.

Someone spotted the bear walking on the east side between the river and 15th Street East.

Chow says residents are reminded not to leave food out as this may attract the animal, who hasn’t been seen since.

Chow says he’s not sure why the bear wandered in. This is the first time he’s heard of a bear being so close to the city.

He says if police spot the animal, their first priority will be to protect the public.

However, he notes the police will alert Saskatchewan Environment in the hope the animal can be safely tranquilized.
