Fur Prices Low At Auction

A spokesman for North American Fur Auctions says he’s looking for better things in the fur industry next year.

Dave Bewick says the auction house’s final sale of the season was a disappointing affair, due to weak markets worldwide.

He notes prices were down across the board, anywhere from 10 to 20 per cent. The average price for beaver fur was particularly low.

Bewick says the problem for the beaver right now is the lack of a market in Russia.

He says enough inventory exists to hold a sale in September, but it will be interesting to see what kind of appetite exists for it.
